Pilates for Healthy Aging

Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health

University of California, San Francisco

Although exercise is widely recognized as a crucial factor in preventing cognitive decline, a disappointingly small fraction of the population maintains a regular exercise routine. Mollie is dedicated to advancing equity within the healthcare system by introducing preventative movement practices to a broader audience.

The Pilates method offers benefits such as improved balance, coordination, heightened interoceptive awareness, and the establishment of new neuromuscular patterns. Unlike many other forms of exercise, Pilates places a strong emphasis on the mind-body connection, making it particularly effective in exploring the cognitive advantages of mindful movement practices often overlooked in traditional aerobic exercises.

As an Atlantic Fellow, Mollie's goal is to underscore the significance of preventative movement education as an integral aspect of healthcare. By doing so, she aims to enhance overall well-being and reduce the prevalence and impact of dementia.
